About me
I became a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator (LCCE) because of my kids. Miss S, Mr H and Master J are my world and I feel so lucky that I got the best possible care in my first two pregnancies.
I birthed our two oldest children at the Mackay Birth Centre and the care that I received in my pregnancy was exceptional. Midwifery care by a known midwife for pregnancy, labour, birth and postpartum, which might not sound unusual but it’s only experienced by 8% of Australians, even though it’s the gold standard of care. We were living in Mackay for work and far from family so the support I received from my midwife and the staff helped me navigate this nerve wracking time calmly and confidently. They gave me all the information and support I needed as well as options to tailor my birth to my needs.
Their care went far beyond what my friends had experienced in their pregnancies with a focus on education at every stage. This experience lit a fire inside me for maternity care and ensuring that expectant parents have all the information about pregnancy, labour, birth and newborn life that I had.
I’ve always had an interest in health and giving people the information they need to make the best choices for their wellbeing. At uni I completed a degree in Population Health and Marketing and went on to work in community engagement for two breast cancer organisations. Then my wonderful kids came along and my working life was put on hold for a bit. For me I feel like becoming a Lamaze Childbirth Educator is coming home.
It lets me use my science education, engage with the community about their health choices and mostly importantly, allows me to help parents have the same empowered birth experience I had.
